Delete Emails Swipe Gesture iPhone iPad iOS 6.x
The default mail app on iOS is still one of the most-used apps despite apps like Gmail, Mailbox etc. At its core, the Mail app is simple and easy to use.
One of the things that the Mail app lets you do is Archive mail instantly with just a swipe gesture. This feature works till iOS 6. Starting with iOS 7, when you swipe on an email, the options are Trash and More instead, where archiving is hidden in more.
Anyway, in iOS 6, you will find that when you swipe on an email, Archive button shows up for that particular email. While this is useful when you want to archive email, it’s not particularly useful when you want to delete the email and send it to trash.
Here’s how to delete email with swipe gestures on your iPhone & iPad:
Go to Settings
Tap on Mail, Contacts, Calendars
Turn off the switch where it reads Archive Messages
If Mail is running, quit and restart the app again.
Now try swiping on an email. Instead of “Archive” button, you should see the “Delete” button. Any email deleted this way goes into the trash instead of getting archived.
